Bournemouth Pavilion Manager, Bob Bentley is retiring after 20 years service at the popular South Coast Art Deco Theatre and Ballroom which welcomes over 200,000 visitors a year.
After a prestigious and honoured military career spanning 24.1/2 years, Bob joined the Bournemouth International Centre in 1991 and then moved to the Bournemouth Pavilion in 1992.
Since then, Bob has successfully coordinated the day to day operation of the Pavilion Theatre and Ballroom, playing a central role in developing and shaping the Pavilion Theatre into the multi use dance, culture and artistic venue it is today, which has been operated and managed by leisure and cultural trust BH Live, since May 2010.
Bob said: "I have absolutely loved working at the Bournemouth Pavilion and have had the pleasure to work with a fantastic team who have such dedication to making the venue a success not only amongst visitors, but in the industry and with promoters too. I have made many friends and also had the honour of meeting royalty, prime ministers, many well known performers and actors and have also worked with show promoters, local charities, community groups, Council members and the emergency services. I have also had the privilege to see some fabulous performers including stars of the magnitude of Glen Campbell, Jose Feliciano and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys whilst, of course, making sure the thousands of people who come though the Pavilion’s doors to be entertained each year, also have a fantastic time."
He adds: "Whilst I am very much looking forward to enjoying this next exciting phase in my life, I will be taking some marvellous memories with me and look forward seeing the Bournemouth Pavilion grow and develop through BH Live under the guidance of the new Pavilion General Manager Paul Griffiths and recently appointed Deputy General Manager Robert Noverraz."
Steve Piper Head of Venues for BH Live adds: "Bob has been an absolute asset to the Bournemouth Pavilion, is a familiar face to regular show goers and well respected amongst event promoters and local community. Bob has been central to the successful operation of the venue leading, inspiring and motivating the team and am sure he will be greatly missed by colleagues and Bournemouth Pavilion visitors alike."
