Local charities team up to smash the world record for biggest ever Zumba class

Dorset charities Lewis-Manning Hospice and The Wessex Autistic Society will be throwing a party with a record-breaking twist this October as they prepare to smash the world record for the biggest Zumba class.

Supported by BH Live and Daily Echo Bournemouth, Zumba Smash is a unique event which invites both fitness fanatics and Zumba newcomers to mambo, salsa and hip hop their way into the Guinness World Record books on Saturday 8th October at Bournemouth International Centre.

Fundraising Manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice, Maria Tidy comments: “We’re so excited to be teaming up with The Wessex Autistic Society to smash the world record for the biggest ever Zumba class, which currently stands at 1300 participants. Our heartfelt thanks go to BH Live and Tanya Bright for all their generous support in making this event possible. Top Bournemouth Zumba instructor Tanya Bright will exhilarate participants of all ages and abilities with an infectious fusion of samba, rumba, meringue, reggaeton, flamenco and hip hop. Come and join in the party on 8th October for a unique opportunity to let your hair down, burn hundreds of calories, make history and strut your funky stuff for two fantastic local charities!”

Since its inception in 2001, Zumba has become a global phenomenon, enthusing 12 million people of all shapes and sizes to party their way to fitness. Zumba Smash will bring together all the exotic flavours of Latin and International dance moves with an extra energetic helping of feel-good fun.

Peter Brown, Head of Leisure for BH Live adds: “Since Zumba fitness classes launched at BH Live leisure facilities, over 16,000 people have taken part and on average over 350 people regularly come along to the 15 weekly classes which take place at the Littledown Centre, Pelhams Park Leisure Centre and Stokewood Leisure Centre. BH Live is thrilled to be supporting this record breaking attempt at the Bournemouth International Centre and we encourage anyone who hasn’t yet tried a Zumba fitness class, to come along to one of our leisure facilities to find out why Zumba is so much fun and take part in this exciting event.”

For just £10, Zumba Smash participants can enjoy an exciting, easy to follow 60 minute Zumba class and be treated to a special event T-shirt to mark the occasion.
