Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and the Pavilion

First Time for the UK Independence Party at BIC

For the first time, the UK Independence Party (UKIP) is holding its annual national conference in Bournemouth at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC). The event will be taking place from Friday 5th to Saturday 6th of September.

With an expected 700 delegates, the two day conference is estimated to inject approximately £400,000 into Bournemouth’s economy. Recent statistics value Bournemouth’s business tourism at £127.6m, of which the BIC and Pavilion contribute £73m annually through the conferences and exhibitions staged at the venue. The remaining £54.6m is a result of conferences, events and meetings at other venues in Bournemouth, often facilitated by the Bournemouth International Conference Bureau.

Clive Tyers, Head of Conferences, Exhibitions and Events said: “We’re pleased to welcome UKIP to Bournemouth and the BIC for the first time. Our facilities are second to none and our award winning seven miles of sandy beaches are hard to beat. Bournemouth is the prefect choice for a conference, with lots for delegates to do after a hard day of debating.”

Pamela McAlester, Local Conference Chairman of UKIP said: “The BIC is well known for party political conferences and was the natural choice when we choose Bournemouth for 2008.”

The two day conference will be held in the Tregonwell Hall, with the exhibition taking place in the purpose-built domed Purbeck Hall. Bournemouth’s Mayor, Councillor Stephen Chappell will open the conference on Friday morning with a Mayor’s Welcome.
