The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) has been confirmed as one of the ‘world’s elite’, with its election as a member of the International Association of Congress Centres (IAPC), the industry association for professional convention and exhibition centres from 49 countries world wide.
It’s the latest in a series of accolades and recognitions that the BIC has received in the last month and follows the announcement that UK conference industry professionals voted the BIC as the only coastal venue in the top ten of favourite destinations, as well as a first for customer service award for the BIC / Pavilion in the Bournemouth Tourism Awards.
Membership of the IAPC is by invitation and each member undergoes a rigorous assessment and inspection of its facilities and operating standards before membership is granted. It’s yet another confirmation that the ongoing programme of investment in the BIC’s facilities is paying dividends, says Peter Gunn, managing director BIC/Pavilion.
“In the last year, the BIC has gone from strength to strength following our £22million refurbishment and our aim is to ensure we are consistently one of the top choices for conferences and events in the UK and increasingly as world class leading destination. Organisers are voting with their bookings and planning events as far ahead as 2015 while both short and long term we’re filling the space with an even wider variety of events that are bringing even more people and revenue into the town,” he says.
Members of the IAPC include centres in Madrid, Rio, Sydney, Dubai, Brazil and Zargreb while in the UK, other members include the Brighton Centre and London’s Excel.
Editor Note: The Association is formally known as the 'International Association of Palais de Congres', - hence the IAPC abbreviation but internationally it is known as the International Association of Congress Centres.
