Pay by phone for Parking at the BIC and Pavilion

As of 17th July Bournemouth will be the first local authority in England to offer customers the opportunity to pay for parking over the phone, making payment easier than ever before for the customer!  The unique service will be available in 45 car parks across the borough including the BIC and Pavilion, so everyone with a mobile phone can pay for their parking with just one quick call.

The RingGo system charges the parking session to the caller’s credit or debit card, with an additional convenience fee of 20p or 30p depending on location.  Texts can be sent as a reminder that the session is coming to an end and the customer then has the option of extending their parking - from wherever they are so there’s no need to return to the vehicle.  There are no fiddly paper tickets to lose, and the Borough’s Parking Attendants can check valid RingGo parkers via handheld devices.

This is how the system works: after parking, the customer makes a local phone call, giving the four-digit car park location number, and their vehicle and payment details. By also setting up a PIN (Personal Identification Number), they will also be fast tracked the next time they call, as most of the data will already be stored.

Councillor John Hayter, Portfolio holder for Strategic Development & Transport commented; “This will be good news for those who have ever stood in front of a ‘Pay & Display’ ticket machine with the wrong change.  We wanted to offer a better service to our customers who use our parking facilities and this service means no queuing, no small change, no pieces of paper and no long walks back and forth between car and machine.  The best part is that a parking session can be extended by simply making a phone call.  It is great for when a meeting overruns, you are shopping or the sun stays shining even longer than usual. This is a reliable and easy to use system making parking easier for everyone.”
