BH Live energy saving measures pay off with improved performance ratings
BH Live, the leisure and cultural trust which manages and operates the Bournemouth International Centre and Bournemouth Pavilion has, through a series of energy saving activities over the last 18 months, significantly reduced their energy consumption and is pleased to report a lower energy performance operational rating and reduced carbon emissions at the venues during 2011.
Steve Piper, Head of Venues for BH Live explains how this has been achieved. He said; “Managing energy consumption for the Bournemouth International Centre and Bournemouth Pavilion, which are large and challenging venues, is a priority for BH Live. We have been working closely with Bournemouth Borough Council to integrate energy saving systems at the Bournemouth International Centre including solar energy panels and water heating systems to help reduce emissions and energy consumption.”
He added; “One of the most significant changes we have made is the introduction of a dedicated member of the team responsible for managing the internal environment in each of the venues and identifying where energy saving improvements can be made. Over the last 2 years, carbon dioxide emissions at the Bournemouth Pavilion and Bournemouth International Centre have been reduced by over 500 tonnes per year equating to £140,000 savings. The energy performance operational rating has also significantly improved for each of the venues which is a fantastic achievement especially for a large conference centre and a Grade II listed building.”
Work to reduce energy consumption across all of the venues and facilities managed and operated by BH Live continues and the Bournemouth Pavilion and Bournemouth International Centre are aiming to achieve further improvements to the Energy Performance Operational Ratings in the coming years.
