BIC is the Only English Resort Venue to Make Finals of the World’s Best Congress Centre Award
Up against international city venues, the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) was the only English resort venue to make the finals of the 2008 International Association of Congress Centre’s (AIPC) Apex Award for World’s Best Congress Centre. The only other English venue to feature in the finals was Manchester.
The world industry association held their 50th glittering annual conference award dinner at the beginning of July in Singapore, where the winners and two runners-up were announced. Vancouver Convention & Exhibition Centre in Canada took the top spot, followed by Australia’s Brisbane and Cairns Convention Centres.
Peter Gunn, Managing Director of the BIC said of the announcement: “We are thrilled to have made it to the finals of this award, especially considering we were the only English town and coastal resort to make it. Up against international city venues like Vancouver, we are pleased to have been recognised as the leading UK resort convention centre. It is the positive feedback from our clients that got us to the finals, which goes to show we are always striving to meet their needs.”
In order to enter the awards potential entrants had to ensure that 25 clients, including 10 congresses, conventions or conferences of which at least five had to be international organisations, completed a survey questionnaire. Questions ranged from rating the venue in terms of the congress centre, the meeting room and break out rooms through to catering.
This year the AIPC received 27 entrants, backed by a total of 804 client references, and 18 made it through to the second round. The BIC was voted Number One Town Convention Centre in a national conference industry poll by Conference and Incentive Travel magazine last year and won Best Destination Stand award at renowned industry event International Confex in February.
