Bournemouth Hotels Voted Best Value in the World

Bournemouth hotels have been voted the best value hotels in the world, by a survey of guests who use website hotel.info. Bournemouth rated higher than other world-class destinations including Paris, Milan and Barcelona.

Bournemouth scored the highest marks for British hotels, a remarkable 8.21 out of 10; higher than Beijing’s 8.15, who topped the worldwide poll. As a town, Bournemouth was not listed on the worldwide city poll but its rating was higher than any other city worldwide.

Over half a million responses to the hotel.info “value-for-money-index”, calculated guest evaluations of 3 and 4 star hotels. Guests evaluated the hotels for value for money on a scale of 0 to 10.

The British Hotel Guest Survey 2008, undertaken by market research agency BDRC, found that Bournemouth is avoiding the national trend of increasing hotel prices. UK hotels posted a year-on-year price rise of 12% in 2007, to an average price of £106 per night, making it the most expensive country in Europe for hotels.

In contrast prices of Bournemouth hotels have fallen by 6% over the last year to an average price of £77. The survey focused on a sample group of 2000 people made up of business and leisure travellers.

The Bournemouth International Conference Bureau (BICB) promotes business tourism in Bournemouth and surrounding area through its venue locator and delegate reservation service. The BICB membership contributes to Bournemouth’s overall economic benefit by attracting a high volume of smaller residential and non-residential business events to the area.

Karina Gregory, BICB Manager, comments on the survey: “It is great to receive recognition like this. The important point here is that Bournemouth is a town, yet competes successfully with cities for conference and exhibition trade. Our hotel rates for delegates are an important factor in this; we offer a great location and fabulous value for money hotels!”

The Bournemouth International Centre, the largest conference, exhibition and event venue on the South Coast, contributes £123m a year directly and indirectly to the local economy through business tourism, which includes attracting an estimated 67,000 conference delegates and 72,000 exhibition visitors, who book hotel rooms in the town.
