Take Off at the BIC!
The More Bus Bournemouth Air Festival was an overwhelming success, attracting an estimated 750,000 to the free four day aviation display, featuring the world-famous Red Arrows, the Black Cats Helicopter Display Team and the awesome Eurofighter Typhoon.
A magnificent charity ball celebrating the ‘Golden Age of Aviation’, sponsored by Breitling, took off in style in the Solent Hall of the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC). The Breitling Ball, in association with Bournemouth-based Charles Fox, was themed to celebrate aviation milestones during the golden era of flying from the 1920s to 1040s, with a replica Bleriot, model aircraft and flight simulators.
Clive Tyers, Head of Conferences, Exhibitions and Events at the BIC said of the ball: “It was a night to remember! The Air Festival was a fantastic event for Bournemouth and the ball truly reflected the aviation themed weekend. Our Solent Hall was transformed and taken back to the 1920s. The staging of the ball once again showed the flexibility of the venue, with the Ball taking place alongside the final night of Beauty and the Beast on Ice and the 4-day Ideal Home Exhibition, truly demonstrating that as the premier venue on the South Coast, we can cater for international conferences, exhibitions, shows and branded corporate hospitality events.”
Approximately 300 guests were wowed by the sensational entertainment, drinks and dinner, and really got into the swing of things by dressing up in period ‘20s and ‘40s evening wear. Another highlight of the evening saw guests enjoy the RAF sponsored Firework Display on Bournemouth’s Seafront. The charity auction featured a thrilling once-in-a-lifetime aerobatic flight on a L39 Albatros fighter jet courtesy of the Breitling Jet Team, including first class travel to and from Dijon and one night accommodation for two people in a chateau in the Burgundy region.
All monies raised at the ball will be donated to the British Disabled Flying Association, the Bournemouth Mayor’s Charities and The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. The Air Festival is estimated to have brought £17m to the local economy over the four day event.
