Robotics Group and Science Society Join Forces at the BIC

The European Laboratory Robotics Interest Group (ELRIG) and the Society of Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) are holding the annual two day conference and exhibition, titled Drug Discovery: 2008, at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and are expecting an estimated 700 delegates from over 30 countries to the event. It is the second time that the meeting has taken place and runs from Tuesday 23rd September until Wednesday 24th September.

The two day event is estimated to bring nearly £400,000 to Bournemouth’s economy through business tourism expenditure. Worldclass speakers will attend the event and lead six different scientific sessions on Drug Discovery, including liquid handling and detection technologies, advances in assay development and screening, the biochemistry of Enzymes and G-protein coupled receptors and lastly Biopharmaceuticals.

The scientific sessions will take place in the Tregonwell Hall and other break out areas. They will be complemented by presentations from two of the field's foremost researchers Anton Simeonov of NIH and Dejan Bojanic of Novartis, a poster session and an exhibition with over 80 exhibitors in the BIC’s domed purpose-built exhibition space, the Purbeck Hall.

Clive Tyers, Head of Conferences, Exhibitions and Events at the BIC said: “The ELRIG and SBS event shows the diversity of our calendar of events at the BIC. Shortly after the Liberal Democrats left Bournemouth we are welcoming for the first time, a major international pharmaceutical conference to the town.”

Jackie Howard of ELRIG said: “Bournemouth has always enjoyed the highest reputation as a premier conference and entertainment destination. With its thriving cosmopolitan resort, attracting many millions of investment into the town's business tourism and leisure facilities, with new hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and attractions it was the perfect choice for our event.”

The Bournemouth International Conference Bureau (BICB) acted as the accommodation agency for the event, assisting in booking hotels for the exhibitors and delegates.
