UNISON BACK AT BIC

UNISON, the UK and Europe’s biggest public sector union, is returning to the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) for its annual conference this month. With up to 3,000 delegates expected to attend the six day event, it will contribute approximately £4 million to the town’s local economy through business tourism.

The Local Government Service Group Conference is being held from Sunday 15th to Monday 16th June. The National Delegate Conference runs from Tuesday 17th until Friday 20th June. UNISON’s policies for the coming year will be agreed at the annual conference.

The Bournemouth International Conference Bureau (BICB) acted as the accommodation agency for the event, assisting in booking hotels for the expected 3,000 delegates.

UNISON General Secretary, Dave Prentis, said: “The BIC is a great venue for our conference with the right facilities and friendly, helpful staff. I know that our delegates look forward to visiting Bournemouth and enjoying what it has to offer after a hard day’s debating.”

UNISON has more than 1.3 million members in the public services, representing local authorities, education, the police service, the NHS, transport and the gas, water and electricity industries. The union has already confirmed that its annual conference will be back at the BIC in 2010 and 2012.

Clive Tyers, Head of Conferences, Exhibitions and Events at the BIC and Pavilion said: “It is great to welcome UNISON back to the BIC. It is proof that we have what it takes to attract the big names and that we give consistently high client service so organisations choose to come back time and time again.”
