BIC/Pavilion receive "OUTSTANDING" Award

Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award

The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and Pavilion have added to the venues’ collection of accolades by scooping the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award’, at this year’s Bournemouth Tourism Awards ceremony.

As well as taking one of the top awards, the BIC / Pavilion venues were also highly commended in two other categories announced at a gala dinner hosted by the respected industry journalist Simon Calder, who is travel editor of The Independent.

It’s the second year in succession that the BIC / Pavilion has received an award from this scheme which rewards excellence across all tourism categories and is in addition to the BIC’s string of awards from the conference and event industry, including ‘number one venue’ in a conference industry national poll.

Business tourism adds an estimated £123 million to the local economy, of which £75 million is attributed to the BIC/Pavilion.  This is in addition to the contribution of entertainments, which relies not only on ticket sales but includes extra revenue from restaurant and taxi use as well as local hotel accommodation booked by an estimated 10% of concert-goers.

Peter Gunn, managing director BIC/Pavilion, said:  “We’re absolutely delighted to receive this award which recognises the all round value that we seek to deliver at all levels.  Over the last year, our business has increased by 36% and it’s a credit to all our team that our customer satisfaction rates are currently 85% in the ‘good to excellent’ range.  There’s nothing quite like an award to give our team an extra lift and now we’re on the trail for the next one!”

Mike Francis, chairman of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board (BTMB), added: “Individuals and businesses play an incredibly vital role in Bournemouth’s reputation as a first class resort, and for that we celebrate their ongoing accomplishments and commitments to the town.”

The awards had 18 entry categories which were judged by members of Bournemouth’s Tourism Management Board, using individual assessment of venues together with mystery shopper reports.
