Wake up to Christmas countdown with Sleeping Beauty
The stars of this year’s pantomime, Sleeping Beauty have arrived at Bournemouth’s Pavilion Theatre for an action-packed rehearsal programme. The cast and crew are preparing for the 8 December opening matinee and the following 44 performances through to 6 January.
It’s the classic fairytale; handsome prince meets beautiful princess but their love and destiny is in the wand-waving hands of good and bad fairies. Now, this story of the princess who falls asleep for 100 years is being brought to life in Bournemouth with an hilarious contemporary twist and dazzling special effects.
Leading ladies Malandra Burrows (Emmerdale, and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here) as the good fairy and Helen Fraser (Body Bag from TV’s Bad Girls) as the bad fairy, put in spellbinding performances, alongside Christopher Pizzey (Mr Stephen from Basil Brush) and Andrew Ryan as leading dame Nurse Nelly. Also starring are Stephanie McWilliams (Sleeping Beauty), Tim Bonser (Prince), and David Alcock (King).
The 35 performers are supported by a 45-strong team of professionals who turn the magic into reality, including, musicians, dance choreographers, costumers, lighting, sound and stage crew and even a flying specialist.
“It’s fantastic to be in Bournemouth and we’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to share the enchantment of Sleeping Beauty with us. Tickets are selling faster than the wave of a fairy’s wand! “ said Andrew Ryan, who is starring as the dame in Sleeping Beauty and is regarded as one of the country’s finest talents. Andrew also wrote and is directing the pantomime, “This show creates unforgettable magic not only for the family but for anyone of any age who wants or needs to be entertained. If you have never been to a panto, watch this one... you'll be amazed!” he added.
