Pavilion Gardens Project Unveiled
THESE are the latest artists impressions of the planned leisure development expected to breathe new life into Bournemouth Town Centre.
The £59million project features cutting-edge rooftop gardens with sea views, an outside performance space, restaurants, a casino, a distinctive glass interval court and restoration of the Pavilion.
Plans have been improved following negotiations with developer Trevor Osborne and the new Council.
New additions to the plans include a regional dance centre, the interval court between the historic Pavilion and the proposed leisure development on the site of the Bath Road North Car Park and a luxury rooftop spa on the Pavilion as well as adjustments to the size of the casino and the outer design of the building.
The scheme, which has the support of English Heritage and the South West Regional Development Agency, is expected to create an extra 350 jobs in the area.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Stephen MacLoughlin, said: “We’re delighted to unveil these latest plans. They include better quality outside space to be enjoyed by anyone in the town, whether or not they choose to eat in the restaurants, attend a performance or visit the casino.”
The improved plans and an architect’s model of the project are on public display in the Lucullus Room at Bournemouth Pavilion from midday until 6.30pm on Thursday January 24 and Friday January 25. The Council is keen to have residents’ feedback before the plans are considered by the Planning Board in March.
The public is also welcome to come along to the Pavilion’s Lucullus Room at 6pm on Friday January 25, when developer Trevor Osborne and Cllr Stephen MacLoughlin will present and explain the plans.
The plans were drawn up by CZWG Architects, whose recent projects include the regeneration of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and the National Portrait Gallery.
Mr Osborne said: “This development will regenerate the Town Centre as our previous projects elsewhere have done. It might be my name on the lease but I recognise that it belongs to the people of Bournemouth – we want them to enjoy and feel proud of it.”
The Trevor Osborne Group is investing £13million in the restoration of the Grade II Listed Pavilion. Work to demolish the unsightly 1970s West Terrace extension is already complete and the public is beginning to get a flavour of the open air terraces overlooking the Lower Gardens that the Pavilion enjoyed in its heyday.
