Spotlight is on £2 Million Pavilion Restoration
The spotlight is on the newly restored Pavilion Theatre, with a VIP official reopening to mark the completion of the first phase of a £2million refit by Bournemouth Borough Council.
Taking place in the same week (20 March) that the Pavilion Theatre was first opened 78 years ago, around 200 invited guests attended a reception in the Pavilion Ballroom, followed by a chance to test out the new ambience and seating while watching the performance of classic ballet Coppelia, accompanied by a live orchestra.
The Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor Bob Chapman, officially re-opened the Theatre and congratulated contractors and Pavilion staff on the completion of the £750,000 phase one refit which was achieved on time and on budget.
Parkstone-based Greendale Construction managed the refurbishment project which was completed within an 11-week programme and included new carpets, flooring and seating in the main auditorium, new cloakrooms as well as redecoration of the foyer and the sensitive restoration of part of the East and West Corridors using many of the original fittings.
The VIP reception was hosted jointly by the BIC /Pavilion in partnership with Ellen Kent and Ballet International, Greendale Construction, Denley King and BIC/Pavilion approved caterers Red Eventful Cuisine.
Future phases of the refurbishment will take place over the next two years.
