Call for Trustees as Green Light is Given for Bournemouth’s New Leisure and Cultural Trust

Bournemouth’s new leisure and cultural trust, BH LIVE is looking for trustees/non-executive board members.

Subject to final approval by full Council later this month, the trust will manage the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), the Bournemouth Pavilion, the Littledown Centre, Stokewood and Pelhams Park Leisure Centres, Sir David English Sports Centre and Kinson Swimming Pool, and will begin operating the seven venues from 1 April 2010.

The aim of the trust is to promote leisure and cultural opportunities for public benefit and will be run by an independent board of 11 people (trustees) who will work with the executive management team to provide the strategic direction of the organisation.

If you have an interest in leisure, sport, healthy recreation, community events, arts or conferencing then this opportunity may be for you. BH Live is looking for trustees with skills in finance, law, management, human resources, marketing or events. Individuals who know Bournemouth would be particularly welcome to apply.

Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin, Leader of Bournemouth Borough Council said: “As a trustee of this new charity, you can help to shape the future of culture and leisure in Bournemouth. All the venues have been successful under Council control, but with the squeeze on public finances, the new organisation will be in a better position to develop them so that they continue to offer what people want.”

All trustee positions are unpaid but expenses will be available. This is a real opportunity to make a difference. For more information and to apply online, please visit: www.bhlive.co.uk or www.bic.co.uk. The closing date for applications is 22 January 2010.

The seven venues are currently operated by Bournemouth Borough Council and the trust would deliver significant financial benefits to the Council through business rate relief and VAT exemptions. The Council will continue to own the buildings and will be represented on the Board of Trustees.
