BIC Launches 25th Birthday Celebrations with Competition!

The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) is launching its 25th birthday celebrations with a competition for local couples who share their wedding anniversary with the BIC’s birthday! Since it opened in 1984 the BIC has evolved from a ‘two hall’ centre into an award winning 4 auditorium, multi-purpose venue – recognised as one of the UK’s top Entertainment, Conference, Exhibition and Event venues. Three and a half years of building and £17m worth of investment later, the BIC threw open its doors on Thursday 6th September 1984. As Mayor of Bournemouth at the time, Councillor Michael Filer officially opened the BIC, he remembers the day: “The BIC’s opening was highly anticipated; we had to close Exeter Road due to the crowds of people who came to watch the ceremony. As a major tourist, conference and exhibition centre it has grown from strength to strength and is now an international attraction. The BIC has changed the face of Bournemouth completely, from a sleepy seaside resort where many hotels closed their doors at the end of September each year and did not reopen until the following Easter, to a vibrant 365 day a year international centre.”

If your 25th wedding anniversary falls on Sunday 6th September 2009, the BIC is offering you two tickets to a show of your choice.* Those lucky enough to share their milestone with the BIC should get in touch with Tara Phillips on 01202 456400. Gail Collins, Event Sales and Marketing Manager at the BIC and Pavilion, said of the competition: “Our customers inspired this competition; we want to give something back to the local community that has supported us over the last 25 years.”

Hailed as the jewel in Bournemouth’s crown, the BIC has certainly seen its fair share of action, what with hosting all the main political parties several times over the years and seeing international stars like Elton John and Shirley Bassey grace its stage.

The final night of Kyran Bracken’s Ice Party on Saturday September 5th will mark the BIC’s 25th birthday with a special gala performance. Peter Gunn, Managing Director of the BIC and Pavilion, said: “We are looking forward to the next 25 years of bringing you the best.”
