RAFA Flies into Bournemouth
The Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) swoops into Bournemouth this weekend. RAFA’s annual conference is taking place at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and 800 delegates are expected to ‘fly’ in for the three day event which runs from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th May.
The conference will feature keynote addresses from the Professional head of the Royal Air Force, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshall Sir Glenn Torpy and the president of the RAF Association, Air Marshall Philip Sturley. Weather permitting there will be a parade along East Overcliff Drive and the Pier Approach, along with a flypast and Service of Dedication. An exhibition will also run alongside the conference.
The annual conference rotates between Blackpool and Bournemouth and was most recently at the BIC in 2007. This year alone will bring just under £700k to the local economy through delegate spend.
Peter Gunn, Managing Director of the BIC and Pavilion said: “The association market is key to maintaining a busy diary of events and we are pleased to welcome back the RAFA annual conference this year.”
RAFA is a charitable association which provides welfare, care and support for any past and present members of the RAF and their dependents. It needs to raise more than £8million per year without any direct government funding, in order to continue its work.
