Littledown Centre team gears up to swim 2012 lengths this July

A team of twelve employees from Bournemouth’s Littledown Centre have come together to take part in the Olympic feat of swimming 2012 lengths of the 25 metre pool to promote swimming and raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Equating to just over 31.2 miles, 50% longer than the English Channel’s most popular swimming route, the team will swim in relay at the Littledown Centre on Thursday 26th July, the day before the official opening ceremony of London 2012. They will begin swimming at 4am and plan to have completed the task by 9pm!

Aiming to raise awareness of swimming and simultaneously generate money for the British Heart Foundation is very motivating for the team and they have already started their training regime which involves swimming up to 5 times a week at the Littledown Centre.

Recreation Supervisor Frazer Bolton, who is one of the swimmers at the Littledown Centre, explains why the team have chosen to take on this particular challenge. “To swim 2012 lengths seemed like a fitting way to pay tribute to London 2012, promote swimming and raise money for a good cause all at the same time. As members of the recreation team at the Littledown Centre, we spend a lot of time encouraging people to participate in swimming and we all felt that this was a great way to show just how much fun it can be. We are all really excited about the challenge and thank everyone who has supported us so far. We will welcome any support on the day and invite people to come along and cheer us on.”
