Thousands of extra business visitors could be heading for Bournemouth following a familiarisation visit arranged by the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) which was attended by some of the UK’s top conference and event organisers.
The visit was arranged as part of the BIC’s ongoing programme of business development for the venue and the town, and this time included organisers responsible for events that attract from 300 to 2,000 people. Organisations represented included the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, the National Union of Journalists and the British Neuroscience Association.
A full ‘Bournemouth experience’ was arranged by the BIC team which included hotel accommodation, lunch at the new Aruba restaurant overlooking the pier and Bournemouth bay, followed by an evening’s entertainment of dinner plus tickets to Le Grand Cirque with the BIC’s hospitality partner Red Eventful Cuisine. There was also a full tour of the BIC’s facility to demonstrate the venue’s flexibility and suitability for all types of events.
Already the visit has generated serious enquiries for events and the organisers were particularly impressed with the investments in the facilities at the BIC/Pavilion as well as around the town - which was the purpose of the exercise, explains the BIC’s sales manager Lisa Ashurst.
“Visits that allow these professionals to test the various facilities out for themselves always result in extra business for the local economy from industry professionals and this should be no exception. It was a good mix of business and pleasure and our VIP guests were genuinely impressed and had a good time. Most importantly we’re already getting results and are working with several of the organisers to select suitable dates for meetings and larger conferences as far ahead as 2012,” she says.
