Local Musical Groups Set to Perform for Pavilion’s 80th Anniversary

A collection of local amateur groups and theatre schools have grouped together and are set to perform a tribute show based around famous and popular musicals, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre, on Sunday 14th June at 7.30pm.

Celebrating the Musicals will be a two hour showcase of classic musicals like Oklahoma, Les Miserables, Mame, High Society and Hello, Dolly! The tributes to the musicals will be accompanied by the live Pavilion show band. One group will perform extracts from the Legally Blonde musical, a recently adapted musical based on the hit film starring Reese Witherspoon!

The show kicks of at 7.30pm and will be compered by CBeebies presenter and loyal advocate of the Pavilion, Chris Jarvis. Each group will take to the stage for around 20-30 minutes, each show casing extracts from forthcoming shows. The groups include Big Little Theatre School, Bournemouth and Boscombe Light Opera Company, Bournemouth Youth Theatre and Theatre 2000.

Christian Knighton, Technical Manager at the BIC and Pavilion, came up with the idea for the special gala concert, he says: “It will be a musical extravaganza and a very fitting way of celebrating the Pavilion’s 80th anniversary. Local groups like these have been supporting the Pavilion for years and this is a chance to thank them and promote their talent in a way never done before, and all as part of the anniversary celebrations.”

Well known director and producer Bertie Brown of Theatre 2000 is at the helm of the project: “The Pavilion is a much loved venue in and around the town. The groups who have come together for this special gala performance have all graced the stage over the years but never worked together in this way. This is what makes the show so special and we’re all thrilled to be making history at the venue in its 80th year.”

The performance will close with a grand finale featuring all the groups, who will pay tribute to the Pavilion’s 80th anniversary with a specially choreographed piece.
