Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and the Pavilion

BIC and Pavilion Short Listed for Best Disabled Services Award

The Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and Pavilion have been short listed in the finals of the Best Disabled Services Award, part of the Meeting and Incentive Travel’s Industry Awards 2009. Meetings and Incentive Travel (M&IT) is a meetings and events trade magazine which has been running the awards since 1988.

Sponsored by Conference Centres of Excellence, the award was created to raise industry awareness of the amendments to the Disability Discrimination Act and to reward excellence of service for those organisations that are already making a difference.

In order to enter the awards, businesses had to complete and submit an application along with supporting evidence. Questions ranged from access for all users including wheelchair users, people with vision and/or hearing impairments through to attention disorders.

Peter Gunn, Managing Director of the BIC and Pavilion said of the announcement: “To be short listed for this award is recognition of our hard work in this area. We strive to offer the best customer service possible and this extends to our disabled customers. It is an area that we have worked with community monitoring groups to ensure we are making necessary and important accessibility improvements to the venues, and will continue to do so.”

A total of 23 UK venues and transportation providers entered the awards. Areas judged included availability of information, accessibility, training, innovations, customer experience and testimonials. The finalists were also required to undergo an interview process and site visit with the judges.
