Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) and the Pavilion

Duo of Appointments Boost BIC’s Conference and Exhibitions Team

A duo of appointments, Sales Co-ordinator Alex Webster and Event Co-ordinator Nicola Abad, have boosted the Bournemouth International Centre’s (BIC) Conference and Exhibitions team.

Clive Tyers, Head of Conferences, Exhibitions and Events said: “It’s a really exciting time for us, we’re celebrating the BIC’s 25th birthday in September and despite the doom and gloom we’ve been winning a lot of new business for the years ahead. Alex and Nicola are great additions to our growing team and their appointments are a good reflection of how well we are doing.”

Having grown up on the South Coast, graduating with a BA Hons in Geography from the University of the West of England, Alex has 10 years events industry experience having worked in sales and event management at premier hotel brands such as Marriott and von Essen Hotels. Most recently she worked in events for Dorset Police, notably co-managing the Force Open Day, but is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Alex says of her appointment: “It’s a real coup to be working at the best events venue on the South Coast and I’m excited about getting stuck in and making my mark in the sales team. Lisa and her team have a wealth of experience so it will be great to learn from them but also bring my experience to the table.”

Nicola also has many years of experience in events management, working with luxury hotel chains like FJB Group and Q Hotels. Before joining the BIC she worked for an agency as an Events Project Manager where the events she managed could be anything from a teambuilding day to a glamorous Oscar themed hospitality event.

Nicola says her background in coordinating events means she can jump straight into the role. She adds: “We are hosting the Liberal Democrats in September and to be working on events with such kudos is a really exciting career move for me. The BIC has a fantastic reputation as one of the UK’s top conference and exhibition venues and ensuring each event runs smoothly and successfully is my top priority.”

Alex and Nicola will also be responsible for placing bookings and coordinating events respectively, at the BIC’s sister venue the Bournemouth Pavilion. Recent statistics show that both venues are directly responsible for £65m worth of business tourism for the local economy each year, and indirectly responsible for generating up to £115m annually when taking into account other smaller conferences and meetings in the area, often booked by the Bournemouth International Conference Bureau (BICB).
