BIC's Tyers to retire in October

The Bournemouth International Centre has announced that Clive Tyers, Head of Conferences & Events is to take early retirement in October after sixteen years at the venue.

During his time at BIC, Tyers has played a key role in the redevelopment and expansion of the BIC in 2005 into a 4 auditorium Conference, Exhibition, Entertainment and Events venue – arguably one of the busiest in the UK with conference and exhibition business contributing over £60 million into the local economy per annum with approximately 700,000 visitors per year.

As a keen advocate of the economic value of Business Tourism to the UK’s best resort destination, Tyers led the launch of the town’s conference bureau in 2003 recently rebranded as ‘Meet Bournemouth’, which offers a full and impartial service to conference, meeting and event planners.

“I am very proud of the economic impact generated as a result of the consistently high volumes of conference business delivered by the BIC and Meet Bournemouth team over the years”, said Tyers.

Locally, Tyers is a board member of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board (BTMB) representing the conference and business tourism sector. Tyers is also nationally recognised in the industry, having served on the board of the British Association of Conference Destinations (BACD) for 12 years (Chaired in 2000), having assisted in overseeing the merger with Eventia in 2008.

“It’s been a privilege working with a great team at the BIC and alongside our business partners in the town who have helped shape Bournemouth into a premier  and internationally recognised conference destination.”, stated Tyers.

He added “I am planning to take a break, but to stay in Bournemouth, take up a couple of consultancy options and then consider what other opportunities this next phase of my life will offer,”

Peter Gunn, Chief Executive for BH Live said: “Clive has made a significant contribution to the success of the BIC over a number of years and will be greatly missed by clients, colleagues and business partners both locally and nationally. We all wish him every success for the future”
