Ticket Prices

28 September 2017 – 21 June 2018

Bournemouth Pavilion Lucullus Room

Presented by Bournemouth Pavilion

Launching our first ever adult theatre group with classes running each Thursday evening, there are no auditions and no experience is necessary.

These weekly sessions will provide participants with an engaging and creative space to learn, explore and perform new theatre skills as well as developing personal confidence and self-esteem.

Bridging the gap between the amateur and professional world, classes provide a platform for adults wishing to explore their interest in the arts with exclusive access to onsite theatre facilities and expert knowledge from industry professionals. Company members work as an ensemble to create performances in a variety of settings and events. Providing adults with a chance to meet like-minded individuals and learn new theatre skills, Adult Theatre Classes cover a variety of different performance techniques including acting, improvisation, script work, comedy and physical theatre.

This fun and exciting new group focuses on providing exciting opportunities for those keen to perform whilst learning theatre skills in Bournemouth's beautiful Theatre venue.

The year round programme runs for three terms of 12 weeks each on a Thursday evening between 7 and 8.30pm

Autumn 28 September to December 14th

Winter 4 January to March 22nd

Spring 5 April to June 21st

Each term costs just £122.

What skills are developed/improved? Devising. Improvisation. Characterisation. Script work. Stage presence. Vocals. Teamwork.

What do we do in a class? The Theatre class starts with some physical and vocal warm up games. After which, the session focuses on a particular theme, skill or piece of script, depending on what we are working on. At the end of the session we recap and feedback on what has been learnt.

How is the term structured? The first term is exploratory allowing participants to engage and get to know each other, finding comfort zones and challenging perceptions of performance. The second and third terms will concentrate on devising and creating specific performance pieces. This may focus towards an end of year public event but will ultimately be driven by participants who will shape the format and aims of the group, steered by theatre industry professionals.

Why would I come to this class? Theatre is a creative class for people of all ages to learn performance skills while at the same time having fun and meeting new people.

What level is this class - beginner, improver, intermediate or advanced? The classes are open to anyone with little or no experience.

What should I wear to the class? Clothes that are comfortable, that you can easily move around in.

Emphasis is placed on discovering the psychology and emotional life of everyday characters using skills you already possess but may not consciously put into practice.

The fundamentals of character development will be explored through a variety of techniques, enabling you to create a believable, fully developed, three-dimensional character

You will learn how an actor prepares to 'be' a character not 'act' a character

You will learn how the industry works from acting to casting to scriptwriting to directing and producing and why it's called show BUSINESS

After learning the fundamentals, you will move on to scripted scenes and will put the skills you've learned into practice in a fun, supportive environment.

Once the group has mastered aspects of scripted performances, we will move onto devised work allowing spontaneous improvisation as an actor.

If you wish to sign up to a free taster workshop session on Thursday 28th September, then please contact to secure your place.
